The ecosystem of devices and services

      Baym and Burgess' approach to platform analysis which they elaborate on in Twitter: a biography, discussed the concept of the ecosystem of devices and services in which a platform is situated and connected. When comparing this approach to Quora, it can be argued that even as university students, we all at some point have come across this website looking for a specific answer. Google, however, is like a gateway to the internet's database, this platform is essentially what redirects users to websites such as Quora where individuals can find the answers that they are looking for. Quora also provides other resources with links which redirect the users to websites or articles that others may have suggested. Although Quora is based upon a social question and answer-based website where people can edit/comment on posts, it is crucial that the users are fact checking such content to ensure their sources are accurate. The ecosystem of devices prevalent throughout the platform is that individuals can communicate online in relation to specific topics through a medium of different devices. It is evident that Quora is connected to not only other media platforms/websites but is a tool in which individuals are able to communicate and discuss topics that are of similar interests.

Quora is a very one of a kind app that not only seeks answers to specific questions posed by the users but is incredibly easy to navigate and use. There are other apps that entail the same idea but that isn’t what they specialize in, an example of this would be Reddit but as we know there is far more to Reddit than simply asking questions to other users. In an article by the Guardian, they speak about Quora and the concept of the app and the possible success considering the lack of apps with the same aim as they do (Kiss, Arthur, 2011). Quora is now known as the most popular QnA (questions and answer) website on the internet, and in general, on Quora, the answers have a 97% accuracy (Patil, Lee, 2016). For Quora its functionality is still present in today’s social realm, with a slight change from its intended use. The original attributes that Quora derived from were applications pertaining to a question-to-answer based system. This changed from being a strictly informative exchange of knowledge to the exchanges of content being extended to the participation of meme culture.
